ABOUT TOWNE by Paul Towne
For this week’s column I caught up with our former state representative Mark Myers, now working at Joe’s Plumbing Services.
“Yes, it’s a comedown,” he admitted. “That one little incident cost me the election and my wife. She got the house and all my investments. What little she left was then taken by that minx intern and her lawyer. I’m broke!”
“But I put my former talents to use here,” he continued. “I know a load of crap when I see it. And I can come through knee-deep dung still smelling like a rose.”
I next asked his boss, Joe Walker, about the former politico.
“Oh, I was glad to help him. I’ve been a supporter since before the scandal. Once people’s memories fade, I believe he can return to politics.”
When I asked him if his honor might instead become a professional plumber, his reply was priceless.
“Oh, no. Mark Myers hasn’t even the skill of a plumber’s helper.”
For the uninitiated, this term can be a euphemism for a toilet plunger.
Next week I speak with a former intern planning to run for state representative. Till then I’ll be About Towne.
