COLORS OF LIFE
(A Villanelle)
The day speeds as a waning moon;
Far gone the white dawns, of my yesteryear.
As life will journey onward soon.
Bright child of spring in vigor hewn;
With greenness of life, so vibrant and clear.
The day speeds as a waning moon.
Mid-days blaze red with wine and tune;
True love is professed with passionate tear.
As life will journey onward soon.
Gold wisdom comes, late afternoon;
At last I discern what truly is dear.
The day speeds as a waning moon.
By twilight, flames mute to maroon;
The last rays of hope are shifting to fear.
As life will journey onward soon.
My spirit can’t resist a swoon;
The blackness of night creeps steadily near.
The day speeds as a waning moon;
As life will journey onward soon.
