CAN’T WE GET ALONG?
We must learn the importance of getting along with others, no matter what we think of them. This is part of our training for Heaven.
If you find yourself saying, “I don’t like that particular person. Why doesn’t our group just get rid of him? We’d be a much stronger team without him”; then you had better check your attitude. Before you decide you can no longer put up with being around someone you find annoying, like Wallace for example, keep in mind that other people are also having to put up with people they find annoying, like YOU, for instance. But we’re all learning to cope with these types of people as part of our growth.
Consider what would happen if we didn’t. Imagine that our time on Earth is over, and we’re all in Heaven. One day while you and I are interacting with each other by the River of Life, I do something you don’t like; perhaps I pluck from the Tree the biggest apple just when you were reaching to take it. You then go to God and say, “I can’t stand that Wallace any longer! Would You please do something about him?” So to please you, God then poofs me out of Heaven and into Hell, then I’m gone forever. You thank God, and think to yourself that this place really is a paradise after all. You would feel this is great; until the day, that is, when you offend someone else and you see them running to God to ask Him to get rid of you! What would you think then? You’d chase after them, “Wait! I’m sorry. Please don’t tell God. I won’t offend you again. I’ll do anything … Please!?!”
That’s not a very comforting picture is it? So rather than setting things up to happen like that; instead we’re being asked to learn how to tolerate each other. Once we learn how to do that here, then we’ll be safe to take there.
In other words, the best way for your own place in Heaven to be secure is to get where you don’t threaten anyone else’s place there.
