When Moses needed to cross the Red Sea, there was a miracle given to help him; but it took a lot of effort and disturbance. There were strong winds, thunder & lightning, and all sorts of commotion. Thousands of people were affected.
Many years later, when Jesus needed to cross the Sea of Galilee, He too used a miracle; but He did it in a much easier way than Moses did it. He didn’t try to part the sea; He just walked across the top of it. He didn’t need to expend great effort and cause much disturbance. And the only ones affected were his handful of friends that He was going out to see. In other words, He accomplished the same thing that Moses did, but He found an easier way.
When Jesus preached the Gospel of the Kingdom, He faced opposition from the religious and political leaders of His day; and it took a lot of effort to overcome it. There were hundreds of miracles performed, dozens of arguments made, and countless references to Scriptures. Still the religious leaders kept finding ways and means to oppose Jesus.
Jesus told us that if we become disciples, we too will face opposition. But, it is my contention that He can give us a miracle that makes it easy. Just as the first time a sea needed to be crossed there was a lot of power needed; but the next time there was found an easier way. Likewise, the first time contentious religious leaders were faced by new teachings a lot of effort was expended; but if we ask God for help we can find the easy way to counter their opposition.
When people have the presence of mind to actually ask God to give them power and wisdom to do things the easy way, God answers them. Then, as He does what they’ve requested, He causes both the human and Himself to be praised.
Upon being told that he was to be made king, Solomon prayed for wisdom to rule his kingdom; and God gave it. King Solomon was given so much wisdom he could easily deal with the problems of his domain. For example, when two mothers came to him claiming the same baby, his solution was so easy and amazing, that from his time to the present he has been known as ‘the smartest man ever’!
Asking God to show you how to do things the easy way doesn’t take anything away from God. To the contrary, it glorifies Him. When Moses crossed the Red Sea, people gave praise to God; when Solomon conferred his wise judgments, people gave praise to God; when Jesus walked on water, people gave praise to God. It should be the same with us!!
We should ask God for wisdom and power. We should seek the easy way to solve problems. We should be the means of revealing God’s miracles. We should do things such that people can’t help but acknowledge that God was working with us, and that they then praise Him for it.
God
can give us such wisdom that we overcome those opposed to His work in
ways that are easy, amazing, and which cause people to praise God.
