Overview
This book teaches about an experience called the “Baptism of the Holy Spirit” (BHS), and how to attain it. Throughout the given sections we will be covering many seemingly varied topics; but they are all connected by a single unifying theme — ‘How to have a close relationship with Jesus and receive the Holy Spirit (HS) into our lives in power’.
Many of us are already Christians, and perhaps have been for many years; but we probably have never heard anyone teach about the BHS and explain how to receive it. Once you understand what it is and have received this wonderful experience for yourself, you’ll wonder why people everywhere aren’t talking about it and searching for it all the time. The sad truth is that the majority of Christians today know nothing at all about the BHS; and people can’t teach about something they’ve never experienced. Fortunately, this book can help you achieve a relationship with God that you thought existed only in Bible times.
As you study what’s needed to receive the BHS, you will learn how vitally important it is to receive forgiveness for every sin that you’ve committed and to remove everything which separates us from God. Sin is a barrier between us and God. And this barrier must be removed before we can experience His blessings to the fullest. We also must keep ourselves forgiven on a daily basis. Then as we begin seeking to get closer to God, we find our desire for Him growing ever stronger until it replaces all else.
For sins to be forgiven they have to be confessed. We are told in 1 Jn 1:9, “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins.” This isn’t saying that we have to overcome all the sins in our life before we can come to God. That’s impossible: we CAN’T overcome sins in our own strength. We can only confess and acknowledge our sins, then ask God to forgive us and to work to remove the sins from our life. By doing this we open the connection between us and Him so that His blessings and His Spirit can flow to us. Yes, you’re probably going to sin again tomorrow, or maybe even later tonight. But if you confess all your sins now, then for this next hour you are clean. This is why we take time at the beginning of each prayer to ask for forgiveness. This makes us righteous before God, by the blood of Jesus, so we can then ask for the Spirit to come into us and work to teach and transform us.
You will also learn the importance of prayer; and you’ll learn how to change your prayers so they become powerful and effective. As you learn, you will begin seeing miracles take place before your eyes. You will develop a level of faith in God such as you’ve never had before. You will know your prayers are being heard. You will know without doubt that God loves you very much and He will do as much of what you ask as He can. And when for some reason your request can’t be granted, He will stay with you until you understand why.
The information to be given here is not of a nature that you can just hear the steps — 1, 2, 3, 4 — and then apply them for instant results. Each step is more involved than at first appears with only a surface reading. Further, a proper understanding of each step is needed before the next step will make sense. People who hear just a small portion of the material often have a negative reaction and put up a wall of resistance to it. This is because the concepts are different than we’re accustomed to. They aren’t un-Biblical; you can find all of this in the Bible. But it is things the Christian church in general hasn’t emphasized for more than 100 years; and so we aren’t used to hearing them. It takes time to accept many of the ideas.
For example, one of the things you’ll read is that you need to pray more. You’ll see this and likely think to yourself, “How does he know? He doesn’t know how much I pray. Besides, I pray a lot already. I pray almost every day; sometimes several times a day! So how can he say I need to pray more?” Then as you continue reading you’ll learn that praying just several times a day isn’t enough; you need to start measuring your prayer time in hours not minutes. Then your reaction will be, “Whoa! No way! How can anybody do that? I don’t have that kind of time for prayer; I have to work, and spend time with my family, and lots of other things. He’s asking too much!” But after you come to a better understanding of what it means to pray eight hours and more, how to do it, and why it’s needed, then you’re reaction will be, “Ahhh, I see. But how in the world am I ever going to get to that point?”
All the information you hear will be of that nature. At first you resist it; then you think it’s impossible to achieve. But please know that with perseverance it definitely is possible. And as you begin making an attempt, you’ll find all sorts of blessings start coming your way, to help you reach the level you need to be. Then as we begin getting closer to God, we find our desire for Him growing ever stronger until it replaces all else.
